Grant received for $29,500.
Background: Highway and roadway access was very limited in Coal Creek Canyon during and after the September 2013 floods. Many homes were inaccessible and residents experienced extensive damage to homes and property. Earlier warning of flood conditions in the canyon would have helped residents to evacuate safely and given them more time to protect their property. The proposed watershed implementation project would provide a flood warning system based on real-time gaging which would help to protect canyon residents in the event of another flood.
The Project: Install gauges in the canyon, tie in with UDFCD existing system and alerts. Benefits emergency response as well as hydrologic data collection. Likely turn over ownership of gauges to Jeffco, UDFCD will maintain them
