Here is information on the work happening across from the coffee shop !
Reach 8: Stream Restoration (Across street from the Coffee Shop)
What: Culvert and infrastructure upgrade, stream restoration, and channel realignment
Where: “Reach 8,” roughly the 1 mile section located between the intersection of Highway 72 and Twin Spruce Road to above the fire station.
CCCWP received a CDBG-DR Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Reach 8 Planning Grant evaluated the specific flood, geomorphic, ecological, structural and human risk within Reach 8 and provided a design plan for the restoration of this reach. This planning work was completed in March 2017.
The Reach 8 plan and proposed budget was used to secure funding for the restoration work in this reach. CCCWP has received $1.5 million in funding from CDBG-DR grants for this work. This design will allow natural stream restoration to occur in the central portion of this stream reach. Currently, an undersized culvert serves this area near the Sinclair gas station and Skyline Road. During the 2013 flood, this culvert plugged up with debris and floodwaters caused damage to nearby businesses and road infrastructure. The rest of the grant will go towards stream restoration activities along the entire reach. As a whole, this combination of stream restoration and infrastructure upgrades will make this vital stream reach more resilient to future storm events and protect the community center of Coal Creek Canyon. American West Construction was chosen as the contractor for the restoration. Construction has begun as of April 2018.
